Leadership Team

Heading up Sprouts are growth leaders with deep roots

Stan Boney, Chairman of the Board, has more than 40 years of experience in the grocery industry and has a B.A. from San Diego State University in Public Administration. He has owned and operated several successful businesses over the years, including over 20 years with various "farmers market" concept stores. Stan was one of the founders of Boney's/Henry's and he served as the Henry's Chairman of the Board/CEO until the sale of Henry's to Wild Oats in late 1999.

Shon Boney, Sprouts Farmers Market CEO and co-founder, has spent his life in and around the fresh food business, following in the footsteps of his grandfather Henry Boney and Sprouts co-founder, Shon's father, Stan. Growing up in San Diego, he had athletic aspirations: he made the Mammoth Ski Team as a teenager, and went on to play baseball in college. But food retailing was in his blood, and when he wasn't selling cantaloupes at the swap meet, he was working at one of the family's many stores, developing a bottom-up appreciation for the business. Little wonder that more than 100 of his former co-workers and employees followed him from San Diego to Phoenix when he decided to start Sprouts. Shon was named CEO of the Year by the Phoenix Business Journal in 2007.

Doug Sanders, President, is a tireless customer and company advocate, and is also the inspirational force behind Sprouts' annual autism research benefit campaign. A native of Nacogdoches, Texas, Doug previously held a number of key management and strategic positions within Brookshire Brothers, Associated Wholesale Grocers, TCI Solutions and others. His work with Sprouts began at the company's founding in 2002. Since then he has had wide-ranging interaction with the entire company while serving as VP of IT, Chief Administrative Officer, Chief Operating Officer and President.

Jim Nielsen, Chief Operating Officer, served as President of Henry's Farmers Market for almost five years before moving to Phoenix and assuming the COO role following the merger of Henry's and Sprouts. Previously, he held leadership positions as Director of Operations, Director of Non-Perishables and Director of Merchandising for Wild Oats, and as Senior Merchandising Manager and Store Director for Smith's Food and Drug. A native of Utah who got his start in the grocery business as a teenager, Jim has hands-on experience with every facet of the operations and is equally comfortable handling a spreadsheet, a personnel issue and a pallet jack. Jim earned a B.S. in Business Administration from Weber State University.
